A trip to the eternal city is a great opportunity not to be missed. Visiting Rome and exploring the roots of Western civilization which date back to almost 3,000 years is an amazing experience which will never be forgotten.

According to Roman mythology Rome was founded in 753 BC, but the site of the city has actually been inhabited for much longer, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe and the first metropolis of history.

The city was first inhabited by a mix of Latins, Etruscans and Sabines and subsequently it became the capital of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire.

At the beginning of the Middle Ages, when the Roman Empire was starting to decline, Rome went under the control of the Papacy and in the 8th century it became the capital of the Papal states. In the following four hundred centuries the popes were keen on making Rome the artistic and cultural centre of the world through new architectural and urban plans. Rome thus became the center of the Italian Renaissance and the place the where the Baroque style and Neoclassicism started. The city attracted famous artists, painters and sculptors who created their great masterpieces in this artistic context.

In 1871 Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy which in 1946 became the Italian Republic.
